Organic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that includes but is not limited to, biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics. It aims to study the chemical structure of living organisms that has some similarities with that of a chemical structure of a lifeless object.The field of organic chemistry was formed when it was started in the initial stages in the 18th century by Josiah Wedgwood. The theory of organics was developed by John Dalton who made the first efforts towards the discovery of elements other than those found in the earth's crust. Inorganic chemistry was the term used in the early days of organic chemistry. Later, it was clarified that it includes many different subjects such as radiation, separation, immobilization, biochemistry, etc.Today, organic chemistry plays a vital role in research and developme nt of many fields like medicine, biotechnology, metallurgy, food and nutrition, ecology, environment, etc. Based on it, new materials are produced which are useful for various fields. For example, the use of medicinal plants in treating certain kinds of diseases is based on the researches performed by scientists in organic chemistry. Further, there are certain examples of medical applications that rely on the materials and components that are produced by organic chemistry.Most of the developed countries nowadays have vast usage of this technique in the medical fields. Various researches have been conducted to create useful medicines and medical equipments based on organic chemistry. Examples of medical research include the development of anti-cancer agents, vaccines, antibiotics, and new drugs. Organisms which are used in food processing process are also controlled by organic chemistry.Along with medical sciences, organic chemistry is applied in the laboratory also. More people are exploring the clinical application of organic chemistry due to its usefulness in both biological and medical arenas. That is why research organizations are continuously looking into different parts of the world to find out new materials that can be used in pharmaceutical applications.Organics can be divided into two categories, namely the inorganic and the organic ones. It is clear that some organics are natural while others are man-made. This means that synthetic and organic chemistry belong to different branches of science and the latter is the one that is being explored more extensively.In organic chemistry, two kinds of substances are used for laboratory testing. These substances are liquids and solids. For liquids, ion exchange method is used and for solids, solid phase combination is used.Materials can be compared and contrasted. Materials are classified based on their molecular weights. At present, tests are done to prove whether drugs that are produced in laboratories are ap propriate for human beings. Synthetic and organic chemistry have been used in various fields of science and technology since ancient times.
